Data Dependence
October 9th, 2009 by admin
Isaac Asimov once said, “I do not fear computers. I fear the lack of them.” As I have aged my dependency on computers has matured and I have also grown to appreciate the technology more. I realize how much I use and rely on computers every day. Likewise, society has become overwhelming dependent on computing technology, so as we need computing more and more what happens should our computers suddenly fail?
I would not venture to sound pessimistic or discourage the use of computers, quite the contrary. And I do not disagree wholly with Mr. Asimov, I believe that we need people to be acquainted with computers and more of them are not necessarily a bad thing. We need computers for data storage and processing, among other things. However, it would be good for everyone to also stay rooted in fundamentals. Would we type so much that we forget how to write? Or stop thinking on our own?
Computers are improving all the time and I think it’s good to stay current with technology. So start building your room full of computers and learn all you can.
